If you are looking for fantastic affordable hotels in Bali, then this is the information you are looking for! I managed to find some dreamy locations at reasonable prices! After all who doesn’t want a pool with a gorgeous jungle view, a floating breakfast or a private villa when traveling in Bali?
Dreamy affordable hotels in Bali
When thinking of places to stay in Bali, I always start dreaming of pools with fantastic rice field or jungle views, floating breakfasts, massages, flower baths, beach huts, private villas… I always thought you would have to pay a lot of money to experience these dreamy features, but I managed to find some affordable hotels in Bali for my Bali road trip! Now I am sharing them with you!
Remark: the prices mentioned in this article are the prices I paid in June 2019 for that specific room type. These hotels often have smaller cheaper rooms as well.
Ubud
Desak Putu Putera – Deluxe Family Room (1.250.000 IDR / 79€ per night)
Book your stay at Desak Putu Putera here.
I booked this room because I knew I would love my own private pool to relax at. Waking up in the morning in my massive bed with the view on the pool was an instant happiness boost. The bathroom was spacious and everything was very clean. The room had a kitchen which I didn’t use, since the hotel’s food was extremely good!
Sitting at the restaurant’s terrace you can enjoy jungle views that are simply breathtaking! I even saw a lizard flying from one tree to another during breakfast!
The hotel’s beautiful shared swimming pool was surrounded by lush vegetation and never crowded. I always had the pool to myself!
The staff was super friendly. They helped me with everything I needed. They even rescued me from a cockroach (yes, unfortunately in Bali it is normal that they appear in rooms) and they gave me a lift on a motorcycle to the ATM to get cash, when the card machine didn’t work. Ubud center was at walking distance.
Calma Ubud – Superior Double Room (1.419.500 IDR / 90€ per night)
Book your stay at Calma Ubud here.
Calma Ubud was definitely one of my favorite hotels in Bali. After arriving there for my second stay in Ubud, I immediately booked a room for my third Ubud stay after returning from my Komodo trip! Even though they only had the more expensive Deluxe Suite (2.500.000 IDR / 158€ per night) available on those dates, I couldn’t care about the money. I absolutely loved the hotel’s vibe and the cleanliness.
The rooms’ interior is goals. It was all super clean, white and with those typical Balinese accessories like woven baskets and lamps, wooden furniture, vases and tribal shell necklaces. the rooms often have an outdoor bathroom, except for the Deluxe Suites.
The food over here was so good that I ate here a lot of times in stead of going out. From the restaurant you have a view of the pool and the rice fields. Another fantastic feature; they offer floating breakfasts!
The pool had the best view of all pools I encountered in Bali and its temperature was perfect. I loved sitting here. Beneath the pool was a lounge area and the spa. The one hour massage followed by a flower bath was to die for!
The staff was extremely helpful and kind. The hotel also offers a free shuttle service to the center of Ubud.
Uluwatu
Dreamsea Bali – Suite with sea view (1.300.000 IDR / 82€ per night)
Book your stay at Dreamsea Bali here.
This place was totally different from all the other places I stayed at. First you will have to drive through a narrow one lane road. Then you have to call the reception to announce you arrived, so one of the staff members can come to carry your suitcase. Because you will have to go down about 50 very steep steps to reach the hotel down at the beach.
Dreamsea Bali offers beach huts made from bamboo hanging over the rocks and cliffs. The view from my room was absolutely breathtaking and I loved spying the surf dudes! The no noise policy was very necessary, since all huts were made completely out of bamboo, so there is absolutely no isolation.
The downside of bamboo huts at the beach is that there are a lot of cracks and holes in the walls, so when I entered my bathroom, I saw a rat walking on a beam in the roof. If I would see this at my own house, I would’ve probably screamed. In Bali I just watched until it disappeared and then I took a shower. You know these things can happen when staying at places like this!
I found this place perfect for one night to have a different kind of experience. The sunset was magnificent.
Sal Secret Spot – Standard Double Room (1.427.590 IDR / 90€ per night)
Book your stay at Sal Secret Spot here.
This is my other favorite hotel in Bali! The rooms had the same clean look as Calma Ubud, even though a little less decorated, and also outdoor bathrooms. The rooms are spread over the hotel grounds like little houses with a front porch surrounded by palm trees and other tropical plants.
The hotel also has rooms at the beach, but you have to do a lot of stairs each time you want to have breakfast at the hotel or if you want to relax at the pretty pool surrounded by white lounge chairs and giant poufs. They do have a golf cart though to take you from the hotel to the stairs.
The food at the hotel was great and so were the coconuts! The location was easy to get to local restaurants in the neighborhood.
Singaraja
Shanti Natural Panorama View – Deluxe Double Room (1.776.500 IDR / 112€ per night)
Book your stay at Shanti Natural Panorama View here.
When I arrived at this hotel I was immediately impressed! Not only was the welcome drink absolutely delicious! But the hotel grounds were magnificent! Well maintained paths guide you through a beautiful garden to several big bungalows, the pool, the restaurant and the main building.
My bungalow was huge and had the most beautiful entrance I ever saw at a hotel! The door and the front of the bungalow were made completely out of carved wood. Inside, my bed was placed in the middle of the room and I had a seating area and a massive wooden closet. Also the bathroom was rather big.
The view at the pool was obstructed by the vegetation, which was a pitty, because I thought I could take some fantastic photos here. But the view from the restaurant was simply amazing. I ordered the welcome drink during my whole stay and the food was also fantastic. The breakfast was very generous!
The hotel is located near the Secret Gardens of Sambangan, where you can visit Aling Aling and Kroya waterfall.
Sugi Gede Homestay – Room with Kingsize Bed & Balcony (233.750 IDR / 15€ per night)
Book your stay at Sugi Gede Homestay here.
Even though this is not a luxurious hotel and it doesn’t even have a pool, I truly feel like I need to add this homestay because I thought it was wonderful!
Sugi Gede has a few rooms at his property and will give you a super warm welcome. Actually my room here was the cleanest room I had during my three week Indonesia trip! The only downside was the lay out of the bathroom. It would’ve been better if the toilet was near the door and the shower in the corner, so if you need to go to the toilet after a shower, you don’t need to walk through the wet floor. (the shower didn’t have a screen)
But the restaurant on site and the people working there, including Sugi were the sweetest. The food was very tasty and the terrace offered a fantastic jungle view.
Another big plus; Sekumpul waterfall is easy to reach from this place and you get a massive discount thanks to Sugi! So if you want to visit Sekumpul and Fiji waterfall, make sure to book your stay here!
Candidasa
Villa Rama – Three-Bedroom Villa with Private Pool (1.980.000 IDR / 125€ per night)
Book your stay at Villa Rama here.
This one couldn’t be missed in my list of affordable hotels in Bali, even though it is not a hotel! After all, when in Bali, who doesn’t dream of his/her own villa? Villa Rama can accommodate 6 people. It is situated in a secured area with several private villas. Mine had a garden with a pool that overlooked the ocean.
I loved having my own private place. It felt a little weird knowing I could sleep in a different bed every night and that I had two bathrooms. It felt huge for just me, but I loved having calmth and privacy.
In the beginning I felt a little worried, when I noticed fishermen passing by at the back of the garden along the ocean, staring at me. So I placed another towel on a second lounge chair so they thought someone else was inside the villa. I didn’t want them to know I was on my own. But in the evening I noticed a security guy on the terrace of the villa next to me and I felt much better. Apparently he stayed there all night.
You can find restaurants and supermarkets within walking distance from the villa, so you can either go out for dinner or prepare your own meal in the kitchen.
The villa was a little old, but everything was clean and I really enjoyed my stay. I definitely recommend staying here when you want to explore the eastern part of Bali.
