Barcelona, the Spanish vivid seaside metropolitan offers many spectacular architectural masterpieces. The most popular and most beautiful ones (in my modest opinion) are Gaudi’s creations in Art Nouveau style. You can’t just call them a house or a catedral. Everything he created is true art and pure perfection.
The good news is that you can admire the already impressive facade of these gorgeous buildings for free. They’re all to be found in Barcelona’s streets. If you think the outside is spectacular, you’ll be in total awe when exploring the interior.
Casa Batllo
The house’s facade consists of colorful mosaic made of broken ceramics and it looks as if it’s covered with the scales of a fish. The roof resembles the back of a dragon.
The use of colors (mostly blue) on the inside, the shapes that are used for the furniture, the ceilings, the doorways, the framework,… are simply breath taking! Everything is wavy and rounded like the waves of the sea.
Sagrada Familia, Gaudi’s masterpiece
I love the different looks of its exterior. There are so many details to be spotted. You could stare hours and hours to this beautiful piece of art. The inside of the Sagrada Familia is one of the most impressive things I’ve ever seen. It made me emotional. Especially knowing that people are still working on finishing Gaudi’s construction. This masterpiece is still a work in progress.
The interior gives you the idea being in a forest due to the pillars that look like tree trunks. Gaudi’s biggest inspiration was nature and it really shows. I often wonder what kind of man he was. He must have been a very interesting person. He really intrigues me.
Park Guell
This park is absolute magic! It contains amazing buildings, sculptures, and tile work, like the dragon fountain, all designed by Gaudi. You will also see Gaudi’s old home which is now a small museum. It’s the perfect escape from the busy streets.
