Boat trips are a must when you’re in Croatia. There are so many islands to explore so it’s hard to choose! During my stay in Split I did a boat trip to the Blue Caves at Bisevo and Hvar. Here’s everything you need to know about my trip!
Boat trip from Split to the Blue Cave & Hvar
Where did I book my trip?
I booked my trip at the Riva in Split the day before. There are a lot of small stalls over there offering similar tours. It’s up to you what you would like to do and what you think is important to be included in the price. I chose the speed boat tour organised by Adriatica Transfer (I think it was one of the first stalls on the left) to the Blue Cave at Bisevo, Stiniva Beach and the Green Cave at Vis, the Blue Lagoon and Hvar passing the Pakleni islands.
What boat did I choose?
How adventurous are you? Normally I prefer a sailing boat or a catamaran, but the distance from Split to Bisevo is too far (over 60 kilometers). So most tours go by speed boat. There are newer versions and older versions. I made sure to take the more modern version. The boats go super fast so I felt more comfortable and safe in the new version.
What to wear?
If the boat tour takes place, it means the weather is good. So you’ll probably be wearing a bikini, top and shorts. But don’t think it will be hot on the boat as well! The whole trip to Bisevo is going super fast, you’ll catch a lot of wind AND water! So I suggest to take a rain jacket and scarf as well! I was soaking wet as you probably noticed in my video on YouTube!
How was the tour?
The tour started early in the morning around 8.30. Apparently they overbooked the tour so they had to split the group in two. One group got to go on the modern boat and then there was another older boat that looked less safe. I was glad I was able to convince the organisation to put me on the safer boat.
As soon as we left Split’s harbour the boat started to pick up speed and it was as if we were flying up and down the water. Water splashed inside the boat constantly, causing hysterical laughter. Everyone got wet. After a little less than 2 hours we arrived at Bisevo. There we could make a bathroom stop and we had to transfer to smaller boats to visit the Blue Cave. I loved this part of the tour! I already visited the Blue Cave in Capri as a child and you could say this was a similar experience. The colors inside are stunning. The water looked very inviting, but you are not allowed to swim there.
After the Blue Cave we went back to the speed boat to visit Stiniva Beach, the Green Cave and the Blue Lagoon, where we could take a swim. After that the trip continued to Hvar. There we had a simple lunch and we got time to explore the town. I went up the fortress via the small narrow streets because the guide told us the view from there is incredible. And it was! You could see the town, the harbour and the nearby Pakleni islands.
After the town visit we returned on the speed boat. It was a very fast bumpy wet ride again but I loved it!
