Finding the perfect flight. It sounds almost impossible. But what is the perfect flight and which airlines provide it? Skyscanner did some research which resulted in some very interesting insights. Flight happiness is more than just a cheap ticket price. Here’s an overview of the different factors that make an ideal flight and where you can book it.
Spacious seating
Spacious seating is the biggest factor for instant bliss on board, indicated by 61% of travellers. I hate feeling claustrophobic on a plane and not being able to move. If I fly longer than 5 hours I always take comfort class (if available) for the extra 10cm (3.9 inches) of leg space.
The average seat pitch (distance between the backs of the seats) in economy is 31-32 inches. These are the airlines with more legroom in economy class:
Qatar Airways – 34 ins
Thai Airways – 34 ins
Asiana Airlines – 34 ins
Malaysia Airlines – 34 ins
Saudi Arabian Airlines – 34 ins
Arik Air – 34 ins
Air China – 33-34 ins
Garuda Indonesia – 33-34ins
Korean Air – 33-34 ins
Delicious food
48% of travellers cite good food as an important element for inflight happiness. I totally agree! I never forget how happy I was receiving chocolates, chips or even champagne on a flight! A nice healthy fresh looking meal is so much more appetizing than a pre-packaged sandwich. When the food is yummie, the flight gets way more pleasant. These are the airlines with the best food in Economy:
Singapore Airlines
Virgin Airlines
Korean Airlines
Turkish Airlines
No turbulence
Most of you hate turbulence even though it’s normal during flights and nothing to worry about. You would think you can’t control this, but there are ways to minimise the effects of turbulence. Choosing seats located over the plane’s wings and nearest to the plane’s centre of gravity may minimise the effects. Don’t sit in the back, closest to the tail of the aircraft. These seats will give you the bumpiest ride. Flying at night or early in the morning also reduces the chance of turbulence. And last but not least; the bigger the plane, the smaller the effect of turbulence.
A fantastic view
Of course this depends of your destination and flight route. The most beautiful view I ever had was flying from Atlanta to San Francisco. I will never forget all the gorgeous landscapes passing by.
