To celebrate the Antwerp City Hall’s 450th birthday, the Grand Place is covered with a carpet of flowers. If you want to enjoy it, you’ll have to be quick, because the flower carpet will be removed on June 13. Then you’ll be able to take some flowers to enjoy them at home.
9635 plant trays are used to build the flower carpet of 30 by 60 meters. It’s very pretty and it smells incredible! I just hope it survived the massive rain. Today temperatures rose up to 30 degrees so of course a thunder storm had to pass by in the early evening. I had hoped to enjoy a sunny terrace but after work clouds already appeared. So I had dinner outside under the terrace blinds, while soaked people were passing by. Hilarious at times to see how people act when it rains this hard.
Here are some pictures of the flower carpet, with a grey threatening sky before the storm.
Update: Today (June6) I went back to see if the flower carpet survived the storm and it did! This is what it looks like with sunny weather!
