The Bohinj Lake at Slovenia is the prettiest lake of Slovenia, completely surrounded by snow capped mountains, a few cute villages and not overrun (yet) by tourists. I stayed here for 2 nights and if it hadn’t rained the complete first day I probably would’ve done way more like paragliding and taking the cable car to the top of Mount Vogel. But the second day it was sunny and warm so I could really enjoy the beauty of the lake’s surroundings. This is what I suggest to do when you can only spend one day at Bohinj Lake!
One day at Bohinj Lake
Slap Savica
Slap Savica is situated at the westside of Lake Bohinj and is one of the most popular waterfalls of Slovenia. Probably because it’s rather easy to reach; you can park your car at the parking lot nearby the entrance and then you have to climb over 500 steps to get to the waterfall. It’s even doable in the pouring rain! But you’ll be soaking wet, so make sure to wear the right gear!
Mostnica Gorge & Voje Valley
This was a beautiful hike with a constant changing scenery. One moment you’re walking next to the river in the forest, the next you’re walking along the canyon with the floating water in the deep and a bit later you’ll find yourself in the greenest valley with cute wooden chalets surrounded by gorgeous impressive mountains! The end of the hike brings you to a wonderful waterfall, which showed a rainbow when I was there! Even on a sunny day the spraying water got me wet!
Walk along the lake
After the hike I went for a walk along the lake passing the bridge over the Sava Bohinjka, near Ribcev Laz. There I bought a delicious icecream next to the cava bar. There are some beautiful spots at the lake side, where you can just sit and relax and enjoy the views.
Have dinner at Gostilna Mihovc
Staying at Stara Fuzina, a little mountain village with a lot of farmers, there weren’t many options to get dinner. Across the visitor’s center you can find a tiny supermarket. But there was no kitchen at the apartment, so I had to find a restaurant. I was lucky my apartment was right across Gostilna Mihovc. It got good reviews so I decided to eat here the 2 nights I stayed there and enjoy the local food. Especially the fried cheese was delicious! The lady serving the tables was a bit scattered at times, but always very friendly.
