The Hotel Las Casas de la Juderia in Sevilla is one of the most unique hotels I ever experienced. The hotel truly is a feast for the eyes. It consists of 27 Andalusian town houses linked by patios and passageways. When walking through the hotel you pass gorgeous courtyards and gardens, decorated by countless flower pots and fountains. You feel as if you entered the 15th century. At the beginning it wasn’t easy to find my way through the maze of all these alleys, stairs and patios. (you even get a map of the hotel) But I loved it! I felt as if I was staying in a museum or one of those palaces you can visit in Sevilla! Excellent!
Checking in at the Hotel Las Casas de la Juderia in Sevilla
A warm welcome
As soon as I discovered the Hotel Las Casas de la Juderia on Booking.com I wanted to go there. The looks of this hotel combined with the rooftop pool and its location made me look into prices immediately. It was way cheaper than I expected, especially during the Summer. Probably because it’s too hot then. But since the hotel has a pool, I didn’t mind.
Arriving in Sevilla I immediately felt the hot air on my skin. I was glad the taxi stopped right in front of the hotel so I didn’t need to carry my suitcase. (This is not always the case in Sevilla since there are a lot of hotels situated in small alleys) As soon as I stepped out of the taxi, a nice man of the hotel took my bags and carried them to the reception. Looking at the hotel’s entrance, I was in awe. The front door could be part of the Real Alcazar. It was decorated with the same type of tiles.
Entering the reception area I already felt this was going to be an excellent hotel. Check-in went smoothly and I received a map of the hotel. At that time I started to realize this hotel was actually huge. Another nice guy took the luggage and led me to my room, passing Andalusian style passageways with flowers and fountains, patios and a lot of stairs turning left and right. He explained the hotel consists of several town houses, informed me about the hours of breakfast and the restaurant and the location of the pool and the spa.
The room
My room, one of the 178, was situated on the first floor in the Palacio de los Zuñigas in the corner of a huge patio. The room was furnished with classic Andalusian furniture. The two one person beds were very comfortable. Not only did they have very thick high mattresses, they were also wider than average. There was a sofa and a comfy chair with a desk, a three door closet with enough hangers, which also contained the mini bar and a safe.
The bathroom with walk in shower was very spacious. The walls were decorated with mosaics. What I loved was the fact that it had a window. Most hotel bathrooms don’t have windows, so you can’t air them. Every day the cleaning lady left new toiletries, which were really good.
Last but not least; the room had air conditioning!
The hotel facilities
Finding the way back to the entrance to start exploring was a small challenge. I was lucky the room wasn’t that far away. Entering the lobby made me speechless again. Was this my hotel? It was as if I entered a room of a palace I was visiting. The complete room was decorated with the typical Andalusian tiles, pilars and arches, and comfy palatial chairs. This is the place to read or surf the wireless internet, which is normally only available in the public spaces. But a wifi installation was situated near my room door, so I also had wifi in the room.
Breakfast can be enjoyed in the Hall of Mirrors. Which is situated in the hotel’s basements. (Tunnels can be found underneath the complete hotel) There was a huge variety of food; fresh fruit, all kinds of pastries and croissants, charcuterie, eggs, vegetables, fresh orange juice, cava,… name it and it was there! I looked forward to that breakfast every morning.
When it became too hot and heavy to keep exploring, I went up to the rooftop pool to enjoy the cool water and the refreshments of the bar. Towels can be obtained at the bar (for free). The pool is surrounded by small towers where sun beds are set.
The hotel also has a spa named Las Termas de Hispalis, but I didn’t go there.
