Santorini truly is one of the most photogenic places I have ever been to. The view of the contrasting white houses built on the dark lava cliffs surrounded by the bluest sky and sea is surreal. I made so many pictures there during my stay, both at the famous Instagram spots and lesser known locations. But don’t think it’s easy to take these epic shots. If you don’t want to wait in line to take your picture (yes, it is that crowded) and you want to be able to reach the epic places behind the “private area” signs, you need to wake up very early (I’m talking about before sunrise).
Where to stay in Santorini on a budget (in Oia & Thira)
Santorini on a budget almost sounds like an impossible thing to do. It is the last place you think about when traveling on a budget. Unlike the rest of Greece (except for Mykonos) it is a very expensive destination to stay at. Everyone dreams of staying at those cave hotels at Oia or Thira with their own private jacuzzis and caldeira views. But those are super expensive. Megalochori, hidden gem of Santorini
Sometimes you discover beautiful untouched places “by accident”. Megalochori is definitely one of them. I found this cute little town while looking for the three bells monument in Santorini that I pinned in my favorite maps app*. I completely lost sense of direction (which doesn’t happen to me a lot), so I decided to ask for instructions at the local Family Bakery & Pastry Shop of Megalochori.
