Spending the night at a tree house in the Belgian Ardennes. Who does not dream of that? Tucked away in the woods of Martilly by the river La Vierre you can find Mon Lit dans l’Arbre: five fairytale cabins, each with their own theme. They are all situated at a certain distance from each other, so it feels as if it is just you, the birds and the trees in the forest.
This article is in collaboration with Wallonië België Toerisme (Wallonia Belgium Tourism), however my opinion is as always my own.
Fairytale tree house in the Belgian Ardennes: Mon Lit dans l’Arbre
The arrival at Mon Lit dans l’Arbre
Mon Lit dans l’Arbre is situated in Martilly in the Belgian Ardennes, less than 10 km southwest from Neufchâteau. To get there I drove over the rolling hills on small winding roads leading through woods and fields and the occasional tiny village. I loved driving in this area! It was so peaceful and the views were fantastic! At the end of the “main road” of Martilly, you drive into the woods, where you will find the reception which is open from 4 pm to 6.30 pm. The owners ask to inform them in advance of your arrival time, because it is not always open. There is a big parking lot to park your car. To unpack you are allowed to drive to your cabin. So you do not have to carry your stuff for too long.
My tree house in the Belgian Ardennes: “Couleurs du Monde”
I stayed at the tree house called “Couleurs du Monde“, which means “Colors of the World“. It is a travel themed cabin with room for two world travelers. The interior and decoration are well thought out. World maps, lanterns, retro suitcases and ethnic masks decorate the walls. The bathroom sink is installed in a barrel, which made it look as if I was on a pirate ship. The colorful pillows in the seating area brighten up the place and all the furniture is made of wood. Not only is this cute tree house in the Belgian Ardennes super cozy, it also made me feel as if I was teleported into another more peaceful, magical world.
A small narrow stairs leads to the upstairs bedroom with a massive double bed, which is super comfortable. The only view from the window are the leafy branches of the trees in the surrounding woods, which really makes it feel as if you are sleeping in the trees. (Mon Lit dans l’Arbre, means My Bed in the Tree)
My favorite feature of the tree house is the terrace! “Couleurs du Monde” has a big terrace overlooking the meadow and the woods. It is the ideal place to have breakfast and dinner. But also to read a book or play a board game.
Eating at the tree house
The cabin has a fully equipped kitchen, so you can easily prepare your own meals. If you do not like to cook, you can always drive to Neufchâteau and look for a take away meal. From Wednesday until Sunday you can also order a meal at Mon Lit dans l’Arbre from a local caterer called Les Saveurs Retrouvées who uses fresh and local products. Breakfast can also be ordered and will be delivered at your doorstep.
I loved having breakfast on the terrace of the tree house with the first sun rays of the day on my face. It was quiet and I enjoyed the lovely view. The domain is situated in a river bend of the Vierre river, so I could hear the river flow in the background.
The perfect weekend escape
Mon Lit dans l’Arbre is really the perfect hideaway from the outside world with all its current negativity. There is no Wi-Fi installed and no television in the tree house. You are completely surrounded by woods and truly have the feeling to be alone in the world. It is the perfect place to relax and listen to all the sounds nature has to offer. Or finally find that time to read that book that you were planning to read for ages! I will surely return to experience the other cabines, because they all look so magical and I truly had a wonderful stay!
