Unique places to stay in Belgium
A red double-decker bus in the Gaume region
At Camping de la Semois, located next to the river Semois between the cute little towns Sainte Cécile and Chassepierre, you can find a red double-decker bus. To open its doors you need to use its original key switch and buttons! Even the call buttons of the bus still worked!
The bus is fully equipped to have a comfortable stay. Downstairs you’ll find a sleeping room with a double bed, two single beds, a small bathroom with a sink and a toilet and on the other side a shower room. Upstairs you will find a little kitchen and a seating area with a kitchen table. The upper floor has heating, but downstairs it can get really chilly at night. So take this into account if you are staying here in colder periods!
At the camping there are more of the most unique places to stay in Belgium;
- a treehouse
- a Berlin Bussing double-decker bus and an American schoolbus
- gypsy caravans, yurts
- a wine barrel
- Moroccan tent, Safari tent, tipi tent
- Cottage

A futuristic loft cube at a castle domain with wellness
Another unusual place to stay in Belgium can be found at the castle domain of Château de la Poste, called Domaine de Ronchinne, situated in the heart of the Condroz region. Hidden behind the trees stands a futuristic, but cozy loft cube. It is an original cocoon designed by German designer Werner Aisslinger. This loft cube is definitely one of the most unique places to stay in Belgium, since only 6 of them can be found in the world!
The cube has windows on every side offering a 360° view, which makes it look extra spacious and light. The interior is a mix of modern/futuristic and Seventies style thanks to the orange and green colors. Everything is situated in one open space, except for the toilet. Its best feature is the massive bathtub with mood lighting. You can choose its color and enjoy a nice long bath. Also the 2 meter bed is absolute bliss! I loved waking up being surrounded by nothing than woods and bird sounds!
Domaine de Ronchinne also has a restaurant and a spa and wellness center with a heated outdoor pool. Other unique places to stay at this castle domain in Belgium:
- a room at the castle
- a room at the former stables
- a tree house
- a chuckwagon

A cozy cabin in the woods of the Condroz
I spent a weekend at the warm snug Chalet Boréal of In The Woods in a little town called Gesves, southeast from Namur. This cabin’s interior is inspired by the Canadian boreal forest. Every single detail in the chalet, like deer antlers, fluffy pillows,… is well thought out, taking you to the far north!
The chalet has a soft comfy bed, a well equipped kitchen and a cozy bathroom containing a large bubble bath to relax after a cold wet hike. In front of the chalet you can enjoy a BBQ at your own private terrace. Since this cabin is located in the woods, you will also enjoy a cute neighbor; a squirrel that seems to live in one of the bird boxes hanging in the surrounding trees.

A fairytale tree house in the Belgian Ardennes
If you also dream of staying at a fairytale tree house in Belgium, then you should definitely go to Mon Lit dans l’Arbre. Tucked away in the woods of Martilly by the river La Vierre they offer six fairytale cabins, each with their own theme.
I stayed at the tree house called “Couleurs du Monde“, which means “Colors of the World“. It is a travel themed cabin with room for two world travelers. Ethnic masks, world maps and retro suitcases decorate its walls. The bathroom sink is even installed in a barrel, which gave me some serious pirate ship vibes! This cute tree house made me feel as if I was teleported to another magical world, far far away. The cabin has a fully equipped kitchen, so you can easily prepare your own meals.
Upstairs you will find the bedroom with a massive double bed. The only view from the window are the leafy branches of the trees, which really makes you feel as if you are sleeping in the trees! (Mon Lit dans l’Arbre, means My Bed in the Tree) The best feature of this tree house is definitely its terrace!

An exclusive place to stay in Belgium: a wellness boutique cottage
El Clandestino is a boutique cottage tucked away in a small hamlet called Briscol in the province of Luxemburg. It is perfect for those who are looking for a romantic escape with their loved one or for those who need some time alone, away from all the buzz to destress.
The outside of El Clandestino looks like a wooden cabin, but the interior looks more like an exotic cave. The whole place is designed and decorated by local craftsmen with handcrafted wood & forged iron. The cottage has a fully equipped kitchen with a magnificent old black kitchen stove and a cozy living area with fireplace. An iron spiral staircase takes you to the bedroom and bathroom upstairs. Where a massive bed and a freestanding bathtub are waiting for you!
But the main goal of this romantic place is to relax and enjoy some wonderful wellness moments. On the downstairs terrace a two person jacuzzi is installed in a beautiful corner that looks like a little cabin on its own. After the jacuzzi you can also enjoy the forest sauna! Absolute bliss!

A tree house surrounded by squirrels in Spa
La Cabane du Bois Dormant is the perfect spot for hiking or adrenaline lovers! This tree house is located just outside the center of Spa. This area offers a lot of hiking opportunities along rivers and houses a skydive club and Schumacher’s favorite race track: Spa-Francorchamps!
The inside of the tree house is one open space divided by a central wall. On one side you will find the sleeping and living area and on the other side, the bathroom. All the furniture and walls are made of wood, which gives its interior a warm cozy look. The tree house has a big terrace with a squirrel box feeder and an open bird house. This results in a frequent visit of birds and squirrels looking for nuts and seeds.
There is no kitchen at the tree house, but an electric kettle to boil water, a coffee machine and crockery and cutlery are available at your disposal. Breakfast gets delivered in a picnic basket on your doorstep around 9.00 in the morning by the owner. I really enjoyed having breakfast at the table installed in front of the window with the view on the squirrels.

A cabin on the water near Maredsous
About 20 km from Dinant, Aqualodge offers 8 snug chalets tucked away in the Molignée valley near the small town Ermeton-sur-Biert. They are built on a series of fishing ponds, which can only be reached by taking a narrow private road. So peace and quiet are guaranteed!
The chalets are decorated with wooden furniture. At the foot end of the big comfy double bed, a glass floor plate offers a view of the water flowing under the chalet. A nice reminder that you are in a cabin on the water, so you can even enjoy it from the inside! Around the wood stove in the corner, a cozy seating area looks very inviting to read a book by the fire with a nice cup of tea or hot chocolate. Which you can prepare in the small kitchen.
The bathroom contains a wooden bath tub and across the bath you will find two gorgeous grey rock carved sinks. The bathroom has no walls but is “fenced” by beautiful thick bamboo sticks. How beautiful!
